Astro Intumescent Pipe Closers are designed to reinstate fire resistance where plastic service pipes pass through fire-rated walls and floors.
Each unit is formed from a two-part steel collar with a durable red and silver finish, allowing it to be fitted quickly around existing pipework using a secure slide-lock fixing system. This makes installation straightforward, even in retrofit applications.
Inside the steel casing is a graphite-based intumescent material that expands rapidly when exposed to heat. As plastic pipes soften and collapse in a fire, the intumescent material activates to seal the penetration, helping to prevent the spread of fire and smoke through the compartment line.
With a slim 60mm profile and fire performance of up to four hours, Astro Pipe Closers are suitable for use in a wide range of constructions, including gypsum and masonry walls, as well as concrete walls and floors.
Fire testing for plastic pipe penetrations may be carried out with the pipe left open or capped on one or both sides. The approved configuration depends on the intended application and installation conditions.
These test conditions are clearly identified within the fire classification code, which defines how and where the pipe closer can be used in practice.
Suitable for PVC-U, PVC-C, PE, LDPE, MDPE, HDPE, ABS, SAN+PVC, PP and composite plastic pipes
Fire resistance up to 240 minutes (integrity and insulation)
Allows smaller pipes to be fitted within larger collars
Ideal for angled pipes or oversized service openings
Tested for U/U pipe end applications
CE and UKCA marked
Designed for internal use
