The Astro Intumescent Pipe Closer provides up to 4 hours of fire protection and is designed to maintain the fire resistance of fire-rated walls and floors where continuous plastic pipes pass through.
With a 50mm depth, it is suitable for use in gypsum and masonry walls, as well as concrete walls and floors.
Each pipe closer features a red and silver coated circular steel shell that splits into two halves. This allows the unit to be easily installed around existing service penetrations using a simple slide-lock fixing system.
Inside the steel shell is a graphite-based reactive material. When exposed to heat, this material expands rapidly, closing the void created as the plastic pipe softens and melts during a fire.
This action helps prevent the spread of fire and hot gases through the penetration.
During fire testing, pipes may be left uncapped or capped on the inside of the furnace, the outside of the furnace, or on both sides.
The chosen configuration depends on the intended application of the pipe and the installation conditions.
Whether a pipe is capped is identified in the fire classification code. The test configuration determines the scope of approvals that apply to each installation.
Certified for PVC-U, PVC-C, PE, LDPE, MDPE, HDPE, ABS, SAN+PVC, PP and many composite plastic pipes.
Fire resistance up to 240 minutes integrity & insulation.
Allows smaller pipes to be fitted within larger closers, ideal for angled pipes or oversized openings.
Tested for U/U pipe end applications.
CE & UKCA Marked
Designed for internal use.
