Since February 2022, all homes in Scotland must have interlinked smoke and heat alarms installed, meeting the Tolerable Standard set by the Scottish Government. This law applies to both homeowners and landlords.

Yes, if you have a carbon-fuelled appliance (like a gas boiler or wood-burning stove), a CO alarm is required. It does not need to be interlinked.

Homeowners are responsible for their own properties. For rental properties, landlords must ensure alarms are installed and maintained according to the regulations.
