The Pepperl+Fuchs Z728 Zener Barrier is a single-channel, positive-polarity DC zener barrier designed to protect intrinsically safe circuits by preventing excessive energy transfer from the safe area into hazardous areas.
The device operates by clamping overvoltage conditions using reverse-connected zener diodes. In the event of a fault that exceeds the permissible voltage, the diodes conduct and the internal fuse operates, safely isolating the hazardous area circuit.
This proven protection method makes the Z728 suitable for use with sensors, switches and low-power field devices installed in Zone 0, Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas.
With a slim DIN-rail mountable design, global hazardous-area approvals and a robust mechanical construction, the Z728 is well suited to industrial control, fire protection, process automation and safety-critical signalling systems.
