Pepperl-Fuchs Z978 Zener Barrier - Dual Channel - AC

The Pepperl+Fuchs Z978 Zener Barrier is a 2-channel AC zener barrier designed to prevent the transfer of excessive energy from a safe area into a hazardous area. It provides reliable intrinsic safety protection for both AC and DC signal circuits by limiting voltage and current under fault conditions.

The Z978 uses reverse-connected zener diodes with alternating polarity. If the voltage exceeds the safe threshold, the diodes conduct and safely blow the internal fuse, isolating the hazardous area. This makes the unit suitable for use with field devices installed in Zone 0, 1 or 2 hazardous areas when correctly grounded.

DIN-rail mountable and compact in design, the Z978 is well suited to industrial process control, instrumentation and fire and gas applications requiring certified intrinsic safety protection.
