Ajax Residence Line fire alarms are available in both battery powered and mains powered versions. Battery powered models require no mains wiring, making them ideal for homes where running new cables would be difficult. Mains powered models require an electrical connection and include backup batteries. Both types communicate wirelessly using Ajax's Jeweller radio technology, so no communication cables are needed between compatible alarms and the hub.
Ajax smoke alarms use secure Jeweller wireless communication. When connected to a compatible Ajax hub, the alarms can be configured to work together, so if one detects a fire, the other interconnected alarms also sound. Compatible FireProtect 2 models can also support direct wireless interconnection, providing an additional way for alarms to communicate.
Not necessarily. FireProtect 2 alarms can operate independently, sounding their built-in sirens when danger is detected. Compatible models can also be interconnected without a hub.
However, an Ajax hub is required if you want to manage your alarms through the Ajax app, receive remote notifications and connect your fire protection to a wider Ajax security system.
No. Ajax smoke alarms communicate using Jeweller wireless radio technology rather than connecting directly to your home's Wi-Fi.
If you're using an Ajax hub, the hub connects to the internet through supported connections such as Ethernet, Wi-Fi or mobile data, depending on the model. This enables remote monitoring and notifications through the Ajax app.
Compatible FireProtect 2 detectors can communicate with an Ajax hub at distances of up to 1,700 metres in open space, depending on the model.
Actual range inside a home will be lower due to walls, floors and other obstructions. Ajax provides signal-strength testing through its app to help check the reliability of the connection.
